Westfield Health

Their challenge

A not-for-profit health insurance company that was founded a century ago, Westfield Health is now a major player in the health insurance market, with over 400,000 policyholders, £90 million of assets and £83 million in reserves.

Executive Director Julie Gill says: “The Executive Management Team took the decision to review and develop our organisational structures to give us a stronger platform for growth. Part of this process involved looking at pay and grading in the context of being able to make well informed decisions about future organisational development and develop a robust strategy for attracting talent.”

Our solution

Innecto’s Client Director worked with the Executive Management Team (EMT) at Westfield Health on the project. Julie says: “Our Client Director had the gravitas to successfully engage with the EMT, and earned our respect through her expertise and knowledge. They presented us with clear information and options which helped us make the necessary high level decisions. It was an interesting leadership development experience for Westfield Health, both in terms of the EMT and HR.”

Since completing the initial phase, Innecto has worked with Westfield Health to remodel and redevelop the sales bonus scheme, benchmarked fees for non-executive directors and is now advising the Remuneration Committee on the executive bonus. Julie sees it as an ongoing partnership: “We are gearing up for pay reviews next year, a new performance management system, total reward statements and a review of benefits offered to staff.  Innecto will continue to support us on this journey; gradually we will need less strategic advice but their technical support will continue to be invaluable. Their Evaluate tool has provided us with a systematic way of assigning jobs to clear organisational levels, and we are now able to carry out evaluations for new jobs in-house.”

The outcome

Julie says: “Reward is an exciting place to be right now, it is evolving fast and helping us look to the future. It’s an example of how HR can help drive the changes necessary to achieve the business objectives rather than being just a support function.”

Innecto says: “It is good to see the impact of our work with clients go beyond pay. A successful reward project helps clients strengthen their businesses by giving them a platform for growth.”

Client feedback

"This was our first big reward project and Innecto helped us break it down and kept us on track in terms of goals, timing and budget."
