"Innecto’s tailor-made solution was exactly what we needed. Their unique offering gave us a richness of data and insight that we previously lacked. PayLab is a great tool but what made it invaluable was the wrap-around consultancy support."
Philip Vickers, HR Director
Their Challenge
Innecto began supporting retailer Charles Tyrwhitt with pay benchmarking back in 2014. In subsequent years they have seen rapid international growth, with an increased store presence in both the UK and the US as well as websites in various territories. However this expansion was putting pressure on the HR team to keep up with the evolving needs of an omni-channel retail business and as such they needed better visibility of the market data to address pockets of high turnover and feedback from colleagues regarding pay, as well as supporting the development of an overarching reward strategy.
Our solution
In 2017 Innecto undertook a business-wide pay benchmarking exercise for Charles Tyrwhitt. After analysis of their roles, we recommended Willis Towers Watson’s Retail survey as the best fit and challenged the business on their job matching methodology to be confident of getting the most accurate result. To give the business maximum long-term value from their benchmarking project, we migrated their results into our proprietary software PayLab. PayLab’s dynamic reporting gives clients remarkable granularity – seeing at a glance where departments and individuals are paid against the market, and the costs involved in bringing employees up to their correct market position. Charles Tyrwhitt’s HR Director Philip Vickers commented: “The system was quick and easy to put in place and the support from the Innecto consultants was excellent.”
The system was quick and easy to put in place and the support from the Innecto consultants was excellent. The visual nature of PayLab has made it easy to use and has helped us quickly identify areas where we’re out of line with the market, allowing us to better target our reward strategy.
The Outcome
The Charles Tyrwhitt team now use their benchmarking data on a regular basis to effectively allocate their pay pot, guide budgeting decisions, and support line managers with pay increase requests. They easily and confidently set pay levels for their roles and back up their decisions with easily accessible data. Feedback from managers has been extremely positive, focusing on PayLab’s ability to clarify complex benchmarking data for users outside HR. Our work has laid the foundation for Charles Tyrwhitt to recraft their whole Employee Value Proposition, confident that their pay offer is rooted in solid market insight.
